Haman's ears and the sweetness of victory
The signature treat of Purim is the hamantasch — a triangular pastry filled with poppy seed, jam or chocolate. In Hebrew they are called “oznei Haman,” “Haman's ears,” and the triangle recalls both his hat and the lot he cast.
At the festive table there is wine and an abundance of dishes: Purim ends with a great daytime meal. Mountain and Sephardic Jews have their own festive fare, but the meaning is one: a joy that is shared with others.
